In looking at cartoon and comic design, the conceptual design for The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in New York City combined the notion of the comic strip by folding a 2-dimensional graphic element which threads through the museum, and a punchy illustration from today’s graphic novels. The two elements interlock to create the form of the museum and culminate in the “Superman” view onto the East river from the theater and lecture hall.

MOCCA gives back to the public by providing gardens in the sky with dynamic views across Manhattan and the surrounding area. It also provides a suitable home for the legendary characters that fill its galleries. It is the hero on the lower east side skyline.
